Storm Damage Roof Repairs in Perth & Perthshire

Perthshire takes the weather. Storms come up the Tay, funnel through the Strath, and hit exposed roofs from directions they never normally see. If a storm has taken slates off your roof, the roof is now open — and the priority is getting it covered before the next front arrives.

    What to do right now

    Step 01

    Stay off the roof

More people are hurt after a storm than during one. Wet slate, damaged structure, wind still gusting. Don't.

    Safety First • Caution
    Step 02

    Look from a safe distance

Look, from the ground, from a safe distance. Slates in the garden. Gaps in the roof. A ridge tile missing. Lead flapping. A dislodged aerial or a chimney pot at an angle.

    Ground Assessment
    Step 03

    Contain incoming water

If water is coming in, contain it. Bucket under the drip. Move furniture. If there's a bulging, water-filled ceiling, do not stand under it — and if you're confident and safe, piercing it with a screwdriver from the side lets the water out in a controlled way rather than bringing the whole ceiling down at once.

    Damage Control
    Step 04

    Photograph everything

From the ground, from inside, of the debris. Date-stamped. Your insurer will want it, and it's much easier to take the photos now than to reconstruct the evidence later.

    Insurance Documentation
    Step 05

    Call us

We'll make it safe first and sort the rest afterwards.

    Emergency Repair • Assistance
    Step 06

    Call your insurer

Call your insurer and open the claim. Don't wait until the repair is done.

    Claim Processing

    Make-safe first

Our first job after a storm is not to fix your roof. It's to stop it getting worse. That usually means sheeting over the exposed area, removing anything that's loose and could fall, and making the property safe — often within hours.

    Permanent repairs

The permanent repair happens after that, once the weather has passed and once we (and, if relevant, your insurer) have a proper look at what's needed.

Insurance claims — how we help

Storm damage is one of the things buildings insurance is genuinely for. Most policies cover it. The claim goes more smoothly when the roofer knows what the insurer needs.

    What we provide as standard

    • Photographs of the damage: Taken directly from the roof before anything is touched.
    • Detailed written report: Identifying the damage and, critically, its cause — insurers pay for storm damage, they don't pay for wear and tear, and the difference is decided on the evidence.
    • Itemised quote: Formatted specifically to meet the expectations of loss adjusters.
    • Direct liaison: Direct communication with your insurer or loss adjuster if you'd rather we dealt with them directly.

An honest note about wear and tear

If a storm blew slates off a roof that was already suffering from nail sickness, your insurer may well argue — sometimes fairly — that the storm merely finished off a roof that was already failing. We will tell you honestly what we find, and we will not write a report that says something different from what the roof says. That serves nobody, and it's fraud.

    Storm damage FAQs

How fast can you get here?

For a genuine emergency — active leak, exposed roof, danger to people — we aim for same day. Call, don’t email.

Do I need to get three quotes for the insurer?

Some insurers ask for it. Many accept a
single itemised quote from a competent contractor, and many have their own approved contractors they’ll try to steer you toward. You are usually entitled to choose your own roofer. Ask.

Will you deal with the loss adjuster?

Happily. We speak their language and it usually speeds things up

Should I get the repair done before the insurer inspects?

Do the make-safe immediately — every policy requires you to mitigate further damage, and delaying that can prejudice your claim. Don’t do the permanent repair until the claim is agreed, unless the insurer says otherwise. We’ll photograph everything before we sheet up so the evidence survives
